First there was the Pudding Bar on Greek Street, and now a brand new ice-cream sandwich pop-up on Wardour Street is sweetening up the Soho streets for two weeks only this summer.
The artisan baking experts at Gail's, a yummy mummy favourite in both senses of the word, are combing their expertise in cakes, pastries and biscuits with the summery delight of ice-cream. Make the most of the last long evenings by getting your fill or frozen treats and, ahem, chilling in the ultra cool surroundings of Gail's Soho branch, which will be serving up these handmade ice-cream sandwiches from 7pm until 10pm. And for an extra blast of cool, D.J Morgan Cannon will be providing the tunes.
For the initiated and those naive enough to think that you can't improve upon unadorned ice-cream, meet the ice-cream sandwich: a rich, melting helping of creamy goodness, encased in sweet carby treats...
The menu
There are three different sandwiches on offer, and each costs £6.
Combine the sweet, sour and creamy flavours of your favourite puddings with gooey, chewy freshly-baked choc-chip cookies, stuck together with a dollop of pistachio ice-cream and a heap of tangy cherry compote, topped off with vibrant chopped cherries and pistachios. For some real decadence try the toasted cinnamon brioche, filled with vanilla bean ice-cream, and then slathered in rich, oozy chocolate fudge or caramel sauce and a crunchy sprinkle of salted peanuts. Or for a fresh and sharp summery favour, try the lighter frozen crème fraiche, covered in summer berries and raspberry coulis, served between two slices of brioche toast.
