On the last Thursday of every month, A Grape Night In presents their Secret Wine Supper; five pairings of delectable food and wine, held in the intimate, upper-level of The Rookery in Clapham. Each dinner is oriented around a topical theme of the month, which is only revealed on the night; for instance, March focused on how to get most bang for your buck, in response to the Budget announcement, while April held the spring-time attitude of ‘out with the old, in with the new’. Each course is accompanied by a brief explanation of both the wine itself and why it compliments the flavours of the particular dish.
A Grape Night In was set up by Kiki and Laura, who met while working at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, in order to breathe fun, femininity and accessibility into wine (the very antithesis of the stereotypes of stuffy sommeliers) . While cocktail and craft beer pop-ups have been done to death, the Grape Night In duo were not only the first to realise the wine bottle-shaped gap in the market, but were also the pioneers of the South London pop-up scene. Their mission is to encourage their audiences to branch out from their usual tastes by exploring more unusual but nonetheless affordable bottles.
Tickets for the July, August and September dinners went on sale in March. Be quick out of the blocks on this one, as tickets go fast.
A Grape Night In's Secret Suppers are on the last Thursday of every month. The dates for the next three months are 31 July, 26 August and 25 September.
