The best bookshops with cafes in London
The literary coffee-house is a historical institution: we've found its 2018 incarnation – the bookshop-cum-cafe. These places are just as brilliant for browsing the bookshelves as they are for sitting down for a (three course!) meal. Whatever kind of bibliophile you are, here's a round up of the best spots to relax, read and have a bite to eat.
If you longingly pour over cookbooks, wishing you could eat everything on the pages, then this is the bookshop for you. At Books for Cooks recipes are made reality: every day a volume is taken off the bookshelves with two recipes selected and prepared for lunch. No two days are the same with the expertly executed dishes coming from a range of sought after books. Desert is always a choice of homemade cake – the chocolate Guinness is legendary.
The three course, no-frills meal costs under £10. To be sure of getting a table for lunch, go as early as possible and be prepared to sit with other diners. The menu for the day is announced on the Books for Cooks Twitter page each morning.
