New on the scene in Wimbledon Village is Black Radish — a Parisian-inspired Neo-Bistro that promises to serve up dishes of outstanding elegance and bold flavours. The menus, masterminded by head Chef Toby Cartwright, are strictly seasonal, rotating and changing in accordance with whatever is on offer at the markets. Don’t expect to often see the same foods on offer twice: the evening à la carte menu changes every three months, and from Thursday to Saturday you’ll find a new ‘plat du jour’ daily.
Despite the food’s exceptional quality — we’re salivating over the thought of chilled Cornish white crab and the Texel Lamb Loin and Breast — Black Radish aims for a decidedly relaxed feel. From the simple, lowercase typeface on the shopfront to the cushioned benches and book-lined walls, Black Radish feels almost cafe like. This, of course, is purposeful, with their self-proclaimed status as a ‘casual neighbourhood restaurant’. The idea here is to simply enjoy their inventive food without ever feeling that you’ve stepped out of your comfort zone.
