During Gianni Versace's prominence in the Eighties and Nineties, big egos from Princess Diana to Elizabeth Hurley were attracted to the brand's 'Rock n' Roll' reputation.
Since Versace's murder in 1997, some believe that his sister, Donatella Versace, who took over as creative director, has moved the brand away from its ultra-blingy, Paris Hilton-fabulous vibe, towards something resembling refined sensuality. Although her most famous creation, the Jungle Dress, worn by Jennifer Lopez plunged down to J.Lo's pubis and proved that the brand's dedication to high-glamour image was never really far away, the Versace autumn/winter 2015 collection and Versace spring/summer that we're expecting to see some of at this Versace sample sale, is a perfect storm of high drama with a conservative edge.
Burgeoning cleavage has been dispensed with. Instead brightly coloured knee high boots have characterised the collection, alongside buttoned wool coats in screaming colours of red, yellow, blue and green. Expect to find a riot of high-necked bejewelled disco dresses at huge discounts and brightly coloured figure hugging dresses perfect for welcoming the new spring weather.
