Those who like to leave their Christmas shopping to the last minute have been rewarded with the opening of a McQ Alexander McQueen store in Spitalfields this winter.
The British brand's second UK store opened in a vast 1823 double fronted building spanning 3,000 sq ft over two floors and decorated with black steel mirrored surfaces and bursts of red paint.
The store has spaces for both men and women, as well as a rolling art space on the lower ground floor which will be open to emerging artists internationally. We're hoping that these artists will encourage fresh interpretations and appreciations for the dark beautiful heart of McQueen aesthetic - especially given that the very first artist invited in is Ermias Kifleyesus, whose vibrant collages are inspired by Harley Weir's photography, whose close-up shots of the body captured the fashion industry's imagination.
Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen said: 'we are returning to the roots of the house with the opening of this McQ store. The gallery space within the store will provide a platform for emerging artists which is something that has always been close to the heart of the house.'
This is a shop opening worth crossing London for.
