Fashion designer J.W Anderson is having a busy month. Just one day after he shows at London Collections: Men he will be heading over to Dover Street Market (London's mecca for innovative fashion and new London designers), to sign special editions of the 35th Anniversary Edition of i-D Magazine.
Anderson is one of 11 fashion designers who were asked to create collector’s edition cover wraps for the magazine in celebration of its 35th birthday. In this, he finds himself once among the elites of the fashion world: Alexander Wang for Balenciaga, Christopher Kane, Jeremy Scott for Moschino, Karl Lagerfeld, Palace, Phoebe Philo, Raf Simons for Dior, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Supreme and Vivienne Westwood, all of whom have designed covers that are in a limited run at Dover Street.
For those who aren’t aware of this northern Irish designer, J.W Anderson rose to fame with an elaborate collection of accessories the same year that that he established his eponymous label in 2008. His mix of masculine and feminine influences inspired his androgynous outfits and strong silhouettes that make his clothes recognisable in Dover Street Market, Selfridges, Le Bon Marche and Printemps in Britain and the US Dover Street Market, Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue. His work has also saw him win the British Fashion Award for ‘Emerging Talent, Ready-to-Wear’ (2012) and ‘The New Establishment Award’ (2013).
A chance to meet this visionary young designer in person is likely to attract a heavy crowd, so make sure you’re there early to get to the front of the queue.
