How to braid your own hair is a question that preoccupies the mind of many women as they longingly admire the styles shown in glossy magazines. Youtube is awash with videos offering answers but having tried this method, Culture Whisper can verify that the results are rarely satisfactory.
Aspiring braid makers can rejoice then at this new pop up shop in London department store, Selfridges. This is perfect for all ages, with younger ones able to discover how to braid your hair like Elsa from frozen and older ones able to master the catwalk style of Cara Delevingne.
From French plaits and fishtails to stylish corn rows, customers can choose from a menu of 12 styles named after supermodels. This is a perfect way to entertain the girls of the family should you be looking for things to do at the weekend.
Sarah Hiscox, co-founder of the Braid Bar, Selfridges said the idea for the new London pop up came about "after repeated requests from my daughter Lucy to braid her hair, I realised that there was nowhere in London that I could take her to get a quick braid and not have to pay a fortune for it. With the help of Willa – a close friend, fashion stylist and all-round girl about town – we saw there was a gap in the market that needed to be filled."

Selfridges department store, Oxford Street
Selfridges is the home to high end, contemporary designers. Whereas Harvey Nichols and Harrods clearly cater for the luxury, sophisticated market, Selfridges has carved itself a niche as being the 'cool' department store. Shoppers can expect to regularly find trendy pop up shops, alongside quirky window displays and innovative marketing campaigns such as the recent 'Bright Old Things' concept, launched in January.
