Books about Alexander McQueen
On the fifth anniversary of Alexander McQueen's death his influence is more widely felt than ever with three exhibitions - Savage Beauty, McQueen: Backstage - The Early shows and Alexander McQueen at Tate Britain - opening in London in March. These will celebrate the craftsmanship of McQueen's designs, creating a coherent survey of McQueen's career.
For many three exhibitions will be enough, but for the dedicated fan there is a further opportunity to engage with the life and times of Alexander McQueen.
To co-incide with this anniversary writer Dana Thomas will be giving a talk on the designer, in conjunction with the release of her book Gods and Kings, The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, considering how McQueen and Galliano changed contemporary style and empowered women.
John Galliano 2015
The designer has also garnered renewed interest this year, after his anti semetic John Galliano came back to the fashion world with a debut collection for Margiela in January. In spite of his disgrace, Galliano remains vastly influential, equally prone to romantic and gothic designs as Alexander McQueen was. Dana Thomas' talk will also explore the tension between art and commerce and it will be interesting to learn how these haute designers tempered their clothes for commercial purposes.
Tickets include a complimentary Peroni and entry to the Women Fashion Power exhibition between 18:00 - 19:00
