Iraqi-born Hadid rebelled against the phallic, glinting skyscrapers that have come to define much of modern construction. Instead, her buildings resemble frozen ice-formations, filled with the dynamic rippling energy of a fluid paused in time. "The beauty of the landscape - where sand, water, reeds, birds, buildings, and people all somehow flowed together - has never left me", she said.
This September, London is treated to her last completed project: and you can wear it. Collaborating with Danish fine jewellery brand Georg Jensen, Hadid has created a limited-edition collection. Entitled 'Lamellae', the designs consists of eight ring or cuff designs, in sterling silver or in black rhodium set with black diamonds.
With their fluid structure and timeless feel, these little trinkets are the perfect echo of Zaha Hadid's buildings. What a wonderful way to honour one of the greatest architects we've ever known.
