Plus-size clothing brands to shop online

Plus-size women have been asking for more from fashion brands for years: broader size ranges, more stylish options and outfits for every occasion.
Some brands are finally taking notice. But there is still a striking disparity between the number of 'straight-size' brands and those that cater to plus-size women (defined as UK size 18+) especially when it comes to designer and luxury fashion. And many of the brands which have committed to extended sizing still only use straight-size models.
As fashion explores its future and how it can better serve the various communities that have long felt sidelined, there is hope that plus-size fashion will, rightly, move up the agenda and become a priority.

Marina Rinaldi

For a one-stop wardrobe shop with prices that rival contemporary brands and high-end high-street stores, Marina Rinaldi (and its younger-skewing sub-brand Persona) is a great place to start. Founded in 1980 as part of the MaxMara brand, MR builds on a wealth of experience to offer classic yet stylish styles in size 8-26.

Offline, Marina Rinaldi has its own standalone store in Mayfair and can also be found in Harrods.

Great for: wedding, holiday and work outfits that make you feel polished and put together.

Reformation

With its extended sizes range, Reformation offers an edited selection of its pieces in US sizes 14-24 (UK 18-28) that have all the sexy-cool vibes that the brand has become known for, and they're modelled by women who wear those sizes, albeit usually at the lower end of the range.

Great for: going-out dresses, pretty tops and plenty of prints.

Women who want to nod to fashion trends without carbon-copying the catwalk would do well to check out Violeta, the plus-size range from Spanish fashion giant Mango. With clothes running up to size 26 and shoes up to size 9, there is plenty of modern style to be found here.

La Redoute

Offering affordable Gallic chic, La Redoute has everything from simple T-shirts to printed skirts and faux-leather trousers at up to size 30. There's a pretty casual skew to most of the pieces, making it a good spot for when you're looking to update your weekend wardrobe.

Great for: weekend basics, work wardrobe updates, lingerie.

Kemi Telford

'One size fits most' is perhaps the best way to describe the glorious skirts and dresses from London brand Kemi Telford. Cut from vibrant patterned non-stretch fabrics, the 'free dress' has a bust measurement of 48 inches, and a waist measurement of 42inches (approx a UK size 22), while the elasticated-waist skirts can stretch to approximately 50 inches.

Great for: bright pieces and modest lengths

Loud Bodies

As inclusive sizing ranges go, XXS-7XL is brilliantly broad but Loud Bodies, an independent brand founded in Romania, is so focussed on inclusivity that it offers a free size-customisation process.

All the clothing the brand produces is ethically made, but it's the occasionwear collection that is really something, featuring everything from spaghetti-strap slip dresses to romantic maxis.

Great for: maximal dresses, ruffle blouses.

Girlfriend Collective

Sustainable and ethically made activewear is becoming quite the focus in fashion and Girlfriend Collective has upped the ante with a size-inclusive range of XXS-6XL, modelled by a beautifully broad range of women.

A nascent brand with a big buzz, Girlfriend Collective makes its sportswear from recycled plastic waste such as water bottles and fishing nets, uses eco-friendly dyes and operates a recycling service where customers can return their worn-out purchases to be made into something new.

Great for: leggings, crop tops, windbreakers, shorts.

Birdsong

Birdsong London has been growing since it launched back in 2014, promising to say no to Photoshop and sweatshops and committing to ethical, sustainable, local production.

In response to the overwhelming sea of choice offered by other fashion brands, Birdsong keeps its range small and well-edited. Slogan and protest T-shirts (mostly up to 3XL, some up to 5XL) remain a focus, while dresses (up to UK24) are designed to be favourites for years to come.

Great for: T-shirts with a message; printed dresses; recycled knitwear

Never Fully Dressed Curve

Born out of Portobello and Spitalfields market stalls, Never Fully Dressed has become a sensation for its dresses that make a style statement. The brand's Curve offering builds on the same sexy shapes and eye-catching prints with sizes up to a UK26.

Great for: going-out dresses.

Collectif

The pin-up aesthetic is celebrated at Collectif, a British fashion brand that started life as a stall on Camden Market at the turn of the millennium. While the retro aesthetic comes in and out of mainstream fashion, for some it is a way of life while others have embraced it as a rejection of a modern fashion industry that doesn't seem to want their custom.

While the Collectif Instagram feed does show some plus-size women happily wearing its clothes, the brand could do more to promote that it goes up to a size 26 (technically, although we found that many items were not actually available larger than a size 22) by using a more diverse body of models on its website.

Great for: retro sundresses, swing skirts and knits.

Good American

It's all about the fit at this size-inclusive line from Khloé Kardashian and co-founder Emma Goode which goes up to size 24. Launching with denim in 2017, Good American has since expanded its product range to include athletic apparel, sleepwear, swimwear and dresses. There's an urban glam aesthetic to the collections and, cleverly, pieces can be viewed on a range of models, giving customers a better understand of how clothing fits.

Great for: jeans that don't gape at the waist, body-con basics.
