Are your children left wonderstruck by the West End? For all those kids who leave the theatre with a spring in their step, still singing their favourite show tunes, there’s a new way to experience the magic of musicals this summer.
West End in will bring the delights of the stage to Hampstead, Richmond and Chelsea. A series of weeklong workshops for children aged seven to sixteen explore a different hit show each day and culminate in an all-singing, all-dancing performance for friends and family. But unlike other drama workshops, these sessions give a true flavour of favourite productions with instructors from the cast of hit shows such as The Lion King, Matilda and Wicked. The list of teachers includes Damien Poole (Charlie and the chocolate factory; Shrek the musical), Kerry Winter (Sound of Music; Grease) and Ingrid MacKinnon (The Lion King).
The opportunity to learn real west end routines from the show’s actual cast will inspire children and give them a glimpse behind the glitz of costume and make-up. “These are real West End actors who know the shows inside out and who will not only teach the shows, but share insights and stories about performing in the West End” explains organiser Michael Parks. His experience as a performer, teacher and the leader of a management company supplying expert performing arts instructions combines in this latest venture.
Whether you want to instil confidence, build on an enthusiasm for musicals, or develop budding theatrical talent, the workshops promise high-octane fun and an unparalleled chance for youngsters to act alongside West End stars.
