This October well-known design heavyweights are pitted against one another in the battle for one of architecture’s most exalted accolades – The Royal Institute of British Architect’s ‘Stirling Prize’ - design’s answer to The Booker.
Amongst the six shortlisted architects are Zaha Hadid for the London Aquatics Centre, Haworth Tompkins for Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre, and Renzo Piano - the architect of this year’s most dizzying build - The Shard. With half the shortlist here in London, it’s worth taking a look at these architectural feats yourself.
Piano, one of the architects behind Paris’s controversial modern art gallery, the Pompidou Centre, currently comes in as the bookies favourite, nudging two-time winner Hadid into second place. A panel of industry experts will have the difficult task of choosing a winner – announced on the 16th of October. Click here to view the full shortlist on RIBA’s website.
Aficionados may want to attend the awards presentation, but reach deep into your pockets, this three-course black tie supper comes in at an eye watering £180.
