The Sticky Dance, Second Hand Dance, The Place

This Easter holiday The Place hosts an interactive event aimed at children aged 3-7 and their families, presented by Second Hand Dance. Entitled The Sticky Dance, it's a performance installation involving colourful sticky tape.

Conceived by Rosie Heafford, Co-Director of Second Hand Dance, and Associate Artist Takeshi Matsumoto with designs by Alison Brown (Scottish Dance Theatre), and a soundscape by Dinah Mullen, The Sticky Dance involves three dancers that shimmy through the audience weaving a tapestry of sticky tape. Audiences are encouraged to explore freely, choosing how they engage and turning the rules upside down.

Second Hand Dance has been creating shows for both children and adults since 2013 collaborating with dancers, film-makers, animators, musicians and audiences in a co-creation process that is accessible and places the audience experience at its centre.

The Sticky Dance is open for two hours for each performance with entry slots every 15 minutes. The Place recommends spending approximately 45 minutes in the space, though you are entirely free to stay for a longer or shorter time.

Performances on Thursday morning, 4 April, are adapted for neurodivergent and disabled children aged 3-7 years,
