Kolyra is a Greek-born, London-based artist who works at the intersection of several disciplines. She is a choreographer with a particular interest in the visual arts, so her work blends choreography, theatre, film and installations. She creates site-specific works in an attempt to look at performance in all its facets and possibilities.
Not surprisingly, 10,000 Litres, commissioned by The Place, Dance4 and the Onassis Culture Centre, counts on a number of similar-minded collaborators. Among them are avant-garde visual artists Sisters from Another Mister, who are in charge of costume and set designs, and lighting designer Sherry Coenen.
Focused on the human body and, more particularly, on a dancer’s body, 10,000 Litres explores the role of breathing, or even its suspension, in performance – and does so with a measure of humour, surprise and occasional darkness. The ultimate aim is to look at freedom and power through the medium of breathing.
Three dancers – one man and two women – will perform 10,000 Litres in this one-off show where you should expect the unexpected… and find much food for thought.
