Seeta Patel is one of the fusion artists featured in Sadler’s Wells Wild Card event this autumn.
Born in London, Patel draws on her heritage to blend the 2,000-year-old Indian classical dance style of baharatanatyam with contemporary dance. Patel’s Something Then, Something Now programme includes a solo by herself and a performance by the award-winning Indian teacher, choreographer and musician Pushkala Gopal.
In the intimate surroundings of the Sadler’s Wells Lilian Baylis studio, Patel will be joined by an orchestra of Carnatic musicians, performers of Indian classical music which emphasises its vocal aspect.
There will be a post-show talk by Patel’s teacher, Mavin Khoo, who trained in India, the USA and Britain and whose background combines bharatanatyam, time spent at the Merce Cunningham studios in New York, and training in classical ballet.
