Shechter's new work, which will open in Paris, is called Theatre of Dreams; its UK premiere will take place at Sadler's Wells, which has hosted many of his previous works, most recently Double Murder in 2021.
A full-evening work with no interval, it invites the audience 'on a headfirst dive into the theatre of dreams', an expression that pretty well describes the Shechter style, with its thumping very loud music, always composed by Shechter himself, and sometimes manic choreography, inspired by all kinds of movement, including Middle Eastern folk dances.
We're promised Theatre of Dreams will 'delve deep into the world of fantasy and the subconscious, revealing fears, hopes, desires and a myriad of emotions that penetrate not only the dreaming mind but also our waking thoughts.'
The piece counts on Shechter regular collaborators Tim Visser, responsible for the striking lighting design, and costume designer Osnat Kelner. Their brief is to help create a dreamscape.
