Seven dancers invite audience members to discover a space full of expectation, suggestion and infectious rhythm in this show, which uses the concept of the placebo effect as a point of departure.
Clod Ensemble’s Placebo sees dancers and audience members engage in a series of experiments to discover what gives them pleasure and what might dull their pain. Their efforts are propelled by an original and eclectic score that encompasses euphoric club tracks and classical fugues.
A truly interdisciplinary troupe, Clod Ensemble was co-founded by director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark. The company collaborates with dancers, actors, musicians, scientists, architects and orchestras to transform and challenge concepts.
This internationally renowned company often draws on scientific and medical research and creates shows that cross the boundaries between performance and visual art. Previous productions include An Anatomie in Four Quarters and Under Glass.
Placebo promises to continue Clod Ensemble’s reputation for finely crafted, provocative performance.
Movements will collide, overlap and multiply in a show that celebrates the power we possess to make ourselves feel better, even when things are falling apart.
