Hosted and curated by hip hop theatre pioneer Jonzi D, Breakin’ Convention is so much more than a theatre show. The festival takes over the whole of Sadler’s Wells, including the Lilian Baylis Studio, with DJs, dancers, demonstrations and workshops spilling out across the venue.
As Breakin’ Convention’s founder and artistic director, Jonzi D has created an extended programme featuring an incredible line-up to honour the festival's landmark 15-year anniversary.
Innovative new artists will rub shoulders with festival favourites from years gone by when some of the greatest poppers, lockers, b-boys and street dancers on the planet do their thing to enthuse and entertain festival-goers.
Breakin’ Convention '18 also features live music via Jazz re:freshed, a vibrant jazz organisation that is marking its own 15th anniversary this year.
An ensemble of 15 leading jazz musicians will provide original scores to accompany five newly commissioned dance works celebrating both festivals’ illustrious histories. Dancers involved include Olivier Award-winning Boy Blue Entertainment and The Locksmiths from London, Netherlands-based b-boy crew The Ruggeds, French hip hop freestyle dancer Mufasa and Jonzi D himself.
Having established itself as one of the major highlights on the British dance calendar, Breakin’ Convention is always an unforgettable opportunity for the whole family to experience hip hop culture.
Really, for a fun weekend of crowd-pleasing dancing you need look no further!
