Now, 18 years on, 2Faced Dance’s contemporary style has evolved into a unique movement vocabulary. Mindful of its roots, this company of five still takes huge pride in creating innovative works while simultaneously nurturing - and collaborating with – emerging artists.
RUN, which reaches London after a national tour, sees the company embrace female choreographic talent. Artistic director Tamsin Fitzgerald, leading Czech choreographer Lenka Vagnerová and newcomer Rebecca Evans have devised brand new pieces which explore the notion of fear and our responses to it.
Fitzgerald’s From Above confronts the subject of social consciousness, examining our ability (or inability) to stand up for what we believe is right. Fluid, high-energy choreography is disrupted by bursts of aggressive action in this mighty take on the collapse of society’s moral backbone.
Evans – who was commissioned for RUN following her participation in 2Faced Dance’s initiative for female choreographers, THE BENCH - plays with light and shadows in The Other, an elegant and chilling homage to classic horror films.
Renowned for investigating the capabilities and limitations of the human body, Vagnerová draws on imagery of angels cast out from heaven in her fascinating finale for the programme, Fallen.
Movement, theatre and design blend in RUN. The show boasts haunting, original scores by composers Angus MacRae and Tomáš Vychytil and striking lighting by designer James Mackenzie.
An adventurous evening of agile and arresting contemporary dance theatre awaits.
