Baked Apples and Spice recipe
Culture Whisper food guru, Stephanie Achar shares her latest recipe for an easy autumnal treat bursting with delicious apples and spices
The key with this recipe is to use really sweet apples – avoid the tartness of cooking apples to eliminate the need for extra sweetener. Just a touch of cinnamon and it is ready to bake.
Many of the most beneficial compounds in apples are in the skin so keep the skin on and preferably choose organic apples as they are number one in pesticides residue!
Serve with chopped nuts or seeds for additional protein and longer lasting energy. If you’d like a sweeter taste then feel free to add some raisins or chopped dried fruits.
INGREDIENTS
Serves 4
4 organic apples (I recommend Golden delicious)
1 cinnamon stick (or 1tsp cinnamon powder)
1 cardamom pod (optional)
A handful of nuts and seeds (optional)
1 tbsp dried fruits (raisins, chopped prunes or apricots) (optional)
METHOD
Preheat your oven at 180C
Remove the core from the apples with a corer or a knife. Place them on a baking tray.
Add cinnamon, cardamom, dried fruits and nuts if you’d like to and place in the oven
Bake for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
