Here’s something rather different: touted as the ‘world’s first mindfulness opera’, Lost in Thought is an immersive experience that fuses new music with contemplation, mediation and food. Over four hours, guests will be taken on a journey to inner calm. It’s certainly one of the most fascinating projects in the Barbican’s 2015-16 season, and one that might entirely transform your perception of opera. Drama will be discovered not through a staged narrative but within the psyche of the audience members themselves.
Fearless mezzo-soprano Lore Lixenberg (Bird), a towering figure in the modern and contemporary repertoire, will be your guide. The music comes courtesy of Rolf Hind (The Tiniest House of Time), famed both for his dust-clearing piano recitals and his diverse, forward-looking compositions. And Frederic Wake-Walker, Mahogany Opera Group artistic chief, will direct.
Trained leaders will be on hand, so there is no need to be already versed in meditation. Loose and comfortable clothes are recommended. Book soon – audiences are limited to a hundred for each performance.
