Steele-Perkins will play Stradella’s Trumpet Sonata in D in a programme that will also include some of the best-loved works for chorus and orchestra that showcase the trumpet, including Purcell’s Come ye sons of art, Handel’s aria Let the bright seraphim and chorus Let their celestial concerts all unite, from his oratorio, Samson.
Bach’s ornate Magnificat is paired with his rarely-heard single-movement Cantata 50, scored for double choir, three trumpets and three oboes. Guy Protheroe conducts.
