Directed by Jodie Foster, the new film follows charismatic television personality Lee Gates, played by George Clooney, who makes his living from a hit game show that sees him recommending Wall Street stocks.
But, when one of the show's viewers, Kyle Budwell (British actor Jack O'Connell) arrives on the set loaded with weapons, events take a turn for the worse. Budwell holds Gates and his crew hostage on live television as an act of vengeance for having lost all his family's money thanks to a bad tip by Gates.
Money Monster: trailer
The film will star Julia Roberts, who plays the show's producer Patty Fenn: she must assist in co-ordinating the event and figuring out the truth behind the allegations. Exposing a tangled web of lies at the heart of Wall Street (a popular theme at the moment, with The Big Short coming to cinemas at the end of January) Money Monster also features another British actor of the moment, Dominic West (whom you can also catch live on stage in the Donmar Warehouse's current production of Dangerous Liaisons).
Unfolding in real time, Money Monster looks to be a thrilling drama with some talented names at the helm.
Money Monster will be released in UK cinemas in May 2016.
