Inspired both by modern zombie fiction and Jane Austen's ever-memorable tale of social class and tangled relationships in 19th century England, the original novel was published in 2009 and now comes to the screen in the hands of director Burr Steers.
Steers' past credits include teen movies 17 Again and Igby Goes Down, so with him at the helm, the light-hearted comedy horror is likely being targeted at a similarly youthful audience.
From the looks of the trailer the film looks to be a modern, feminist revamping of Austen's classic romance, following a tough Lizzie Bennett – trained in martial arts – who must team up with Mr Darcy to fight a zombie invasion. Romance – inevitably – blossoms.
Starring a host of British names including Lily James, of Branagh's Cinderella and a recent television adaptation of Tolstoy's War and Peace, alongside heart-throb Douglas Booth (Great Expectations, The Riot Club) the film will likely gain a wide release in UK cinemas. Suki Waterhouse and Lena Heady also star in this satirical, tongue-in-cheek adaptation of Austen.
