It can be difficult to find the perfect cinematic Valentine’s event in London. It is the one night of the year where a film, some popcorn and a litre of Coca-cola just won’t do. So this year, we suggest heading down to a disused railway arch in Vauxhall. It might not sound like the most romantic location, but once the Tunnel of Love (13-16 February) has been decked out with roses, covered in fairy lights, once you've visited the stalls selling cocktails, champagne and Rococo chocolates, you and your significant other will find yourselves transported to romantic paradise, in the heart of the city.
This year, the selection of films being shown at this pop-up screen include director Wes Anderson’s 2012 mega-hit Moonrise Kingdom, Woody Allen’s undeniable Annie Hall, and classics Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Casablanca. Saccharinity aside, all of these films benefit from being seen on the big screen; Anderson’s bold, masterful use of colour comes to life when blown up, and Audrey Hepburn’s doe eyes will beam out of the screen.
To ensure you don’t miss a moment of the action, all attendees will be provided with a big comfy chair, a soft blanket, and an (essential) pair of wireless, noise cancelling headphones. All proceeds from the Tunnel of Love go to help local homeless charity Thames Reach, so you can smooch with a clear conscience, and there are 4.30 showings for those who have other plans for the evening. If you are looking for an alternative to the classic dinner and drinks set-up, this could be the perfect evening out.Tickets are available, but selling out fast, so get your hands on them whilst you can!
