The best juice-cleanses in London, 2023

Juice-cleanses and the clean-up eating plans might just be the re-boot you need right now

The rise of the juice plan

Juice cleanses have come a long way from the 90s. Thankfully they're easier than ever with no scrubbing of the 10-piece juicer and muddy tufts of kale - you can even pick up health shots from Marks & Spencer and très healthy-looking green liquids at Pret. But it's the delivery options that are super-interesting with balanced programmes of soups, juices and plant-based smoothies that have made them a do-able choice in a busy person's life.

I saw the superficial evidence of how good juices were back in the 2000s when I worked with the fabulous Elizabeth Hurley. A few days after NYE and every crew member in that NYC studio was jaded, spotty, and sporting the fattest post-Christmas hangover. Hurley, on the other hand, wasn't. She was raving about the virtues of what keeps her trim and glowy and, spoiler alert, it wasn't roast turkey and all the trimmings.

She was guzzling warm water and watercress soup. Around that time, there was a slew of celebrities grinding, blending, and downing presses with a plethora of greens, beets and wheatgrass-charged powders, clean soups and master cleanses and the like, before swimsuit shoots and catwalk shows – all looking glowier than ever.

It's precisely that which has inspired the millions to juice-cleanse.

However, there are also as many followers as doubters, and quite rightly so. The body detoxes itself, and it’s proven that quick fixes do not work – only long-term commitments to cleaner living, healthier eating strategies and adding some movement to your life is what will make the real, sustainable difference.

So, if weight loss is your end-game goal, then a 'juice cleanse' is not perhaps the plan for you.

However, if you do feel like you need a reset in your thinking, have a fresh start in upping your vegetable and fruit game, and also reap the benefits when it comes to your skin and gut microbiome, it could just be the quick fix in a long-term healthy eating plan that you might need.

Talking with Stephanie Morgan, founder of Raw & Juicy, she makes a very valid point: 'Did you know that as many as 50% of people are dehydrated? Cold-pressed juices help replenish hydration levels, flushing out even more toxins to make your detox even more effective. In addition, making a conscious decision to drink more water throughout the day, especially when you are on a juice-cleanse, will yield even greater results and ensure that your skin is glowing with hydration.'

Furthermore, a survey by Momentive x Hanna Sillitoe over 1k people in the UK, US and Europe found that 27% saw improvements in their skin after a cleanse, and 24% had more energy.

Encouraging your five-plus-a-day for the busy, on-the-fly person can be a struggle. The survey also revealed that 25% felt they were too busy to make fresh juice, and 19% cited the hassle of cleaning their juicer. So, if you fall into the camp of needing a reset but feel like you don't have the time – here are the best juice-cleanses in London that will arrive fresh at your door, already prepared and absolutely no washing-up required. Just don’t jump on the junk-food bandwagon when it’s over. As with most things, balance is everything.

Enjoy.
