Wembley Park Art Trail 2021

With Wembley Stadium featuring prominently in this year's European Football tournament, Euro 2020 (postponed from last year due to Covid-19), including hosting the prestigious final, the Wembley Park neighbourhood has been very much in the news. But football apart, the area has a lot to offer both residents and visitors, and one of its most attractive features is its free open-air Art Trail.

So, should the rain stop and summer return to these parts, Wembley Park's Art Trail is definitely an option for a leisurely stroll, enjoying the open air and at the same time sampling artworks created specifically to be seen in this particular physical context, making full use of the neighbourhood's design features.

This year four new works have been added to the existing 10 pieces across various mediums, including paint, digital mixed media and upcycled materials. They are:

Against the Odds, by Micah Purnell, a work produced during lockdown on the subject of community. Also by Micah Purnell is Power in Unity (pictured top), which occupies Wembley Park's famous Spanish Steps, and illustrates a sense of togetherness and hope in tough times;

Inside Out London, by the renowned photographer JR, consists of black-and-white images of Londoners' faces. This work extends beyond Wembley Park, with images posted in various locations across the city and the Inside Out Photobooth travelling around and inviting Londoners to have their pictures taken.

Meadows of Change, by HagenHinderdael, is set into original K-2 phone boxes turned into mini pop-up art galleries, a work celebrating the many layers of Wembley's history.
