COS x Serpentine Park Nights, Hyde Park
Where better to spend those warm summer evenings than soaking up some cutting edge culture at the Serpentine Pavilion with the annual Park Nights programme
COS x Serpentine Park Nights presents eight evenings of poetry, theatre, music and arts, taking place on selected Fridays between 5 July and 27 September. It’s set to be cutting edge and immersive, with a roll call of international artists commissioned to respond to this year’s cave-like pavilion, designed by award-winning architect Junya Ishigami.
The series kicks off with Brooklyn based artist and writer Precious Okoyomon, who has been billed for Friday 5 July. Her performances examine ‘the criminalisation and radicalisation of light, darkness and the sun.’ Also exhibiting is Danish artist Jacob Kudsk Steensen who uses virtual reality and video installations to explore how imagination, technology and nature intertwine. His work is inspired by the research of biologists and ethnographers and science fiction, all of which he combines to produce fantasy digital ecosystems. You can catch him on Friday 12 July. Also billed for July is, Shawanda Corbett, whose performances incorporate her ceramic practice and deals with notions of the human body and life cycles.
September highlights include the work of Chilean artist and activist Cecilia Vicuña, who utilises traditional South American crafts and practices to address the destruction of cultures and the environment. There will also be music by 1010 Benja SL, an artist whose writing and production techniques mark him out as a unique talent.
Past participants of Park Nights include include Ai Weiwei, Wolfgang Tillmans and Michelangelo Pistoletto and there’s every chance that this year you will witness a performance by the next big thing. Performances run on 5, 12, 26 July, 16 August and 6, 13, 20, 27 September.
