RA Lates: Manhattan Studio Party
Celebrate the avant-garde New York art scene of the ‘60s and ‘70s with the Royal Academy this October
Coinciding
with the RA’s major autumn exhibition, Jasper Johns: ‘Something Resembling Truth', the upcoming RA Lates will take you on an immersive journey through the avant-garde New York
art scene of the ‘60s and ‘70s.
Complete with a loft concert in Tribeca, a reconstruction of a trendy gallery in East Village, a disco in Greenwich Village and an avant-garde art-rock venue in Midtown, this Manhattan Studio Party celebrates the art and artists that inspired Johns, today regarded as one of the most celebrated contemporary artists of the twentieth century.
Experimental life drawing classes, avant-garde performance art, disco DJs, secret bars, and artist talks as well as an after hours viewing of the Jasper Johns exhibition will all be part of the evening's entertainment.
We warn you in advance that the Studio Manhattan evening is themed, so dressing up is warmly encouraged. Think ‘60s/’70s avant-garde artist à la David Bowie, or seek inspiration from Warhol's entourage (Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl would be a great starting point), The Velvet Underground or John & Yoko. Embrace A-line miniskirts, flares, faux fur, go-go boots, bold plastic earrings and sunglasses.
Tickets will sell out fast for this one-off extravaganza, so book them now!
