Jonas Woods, Gagosian Gallery

American rising star Jonas Woods exhibits new surreal paintings at Gagosian Gallery Britannia Street

Jonas Wood artist, Children's Garden, 2015, Gagosian Gallery London
A rising star in the Saatchi collection, Jonas Wood is presenting a new selection of oil paintings at the Gagosian Gallery in north London, which just so happens to also be his first solo exhibition in the big smoke.
Jonas Wood art & career
Influenced by the vibrant palette of painters like Henri Matisse and David Hockney, Wood’s new paintings of domestic pots and interiors are eye catching and surreal. In his experimental interpretations of American life, Wood blends human figures, domestic objects and landscape scenes to distort any sense of reality. Developed from intricate pencil drawing studies, these oil paintings also take tips from the bizarre abstract works by Surrealist artists.
Gagosian Gallery exhibition highlights
Look out for Wood’s Grey Greek Pot and Wood Grain Pot with Night Bloom. In both these works, Wood’s magic touch with texture and colour makes an appearance. You'll also enjoy the contrast between classical mythology and the very ordinary shower curtain from Wood's childhood home in Monkey Pot.
Whether you are a die-hard fan of the visual dissonance or a new-comer to abstract surrealism, head down to the Gagosian Gallery to marvel at Wood’s completely original new artwork.
