Full of hot air: 100,000 balloons fill Covent Garden for dynamic new art installation
A spectacular new art installation of 100,000 white balloons has taken over Covent Garden's Market Building. The serene white light which bounces off the balloons, pulsates like a beating heart in the centre of this bustling district.
The brains behind this quirky new work is French artist Charles Pétillon, who will also be creating a pop-up exhibition in the Royal Opera House Arcade, is best known for his striking sculptures which fill derelict houses, cars and basketball courts with hundreds of balloons. It's also Pétillon's first public art installation outside of France - kicking off his international career with a bang.
This 54 metre-long display entitled Heartbeat is all fun and games, taking 25 people a colossal 5 nights to blow-up the all those balloons.
Let's just hope the participants have a lot of puff ready!
