Fausto Pirandello 1899-1975, Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art

Over at the Estorick Collection in north London this summer is the first UK exhibition dedicated to the mesmerising and psychologically disturbing work of Italian expressionist painter, Fausto Pirandello.
Who is Pirandello?
Son of Nobel Laureate and successful playwright, Luigi Pirandello, Fausto Pirandello carved out his own path to fame with his carnal and strikingly raw compositions of women in early 1930’s Italy. Painting in the Scuola Romana tradition yet inspired by the French Cubists in Paris, Pirandello’s early work is disquieting, even surreal and at odds with the prevailing classicism typical of the Novecentro group that dominated the artistic scene of the 1920s.
Estorick Collection exhibition
Curated by Fabio Benzi, the show displays more than fifty of Fausto Pirandello's most renowned works, including masterpieces like Composition (1928), Interior in the Morning (1931) and Drought (1936-1937). Through an overview of works spanning the artist’s entire career, this exhibition showcases the Pirandello's unique geometric imagery and uncompromising realism.
While British audiences may be a little less familiar with Pirandello’s painterly talent, this is an exhibition not to be missed.
