Winter Exhibition, Connaught Brown
Huge names out in force at this winter Connaught Brown exhibition 2016
Picasso, Leger, Renoir, Auerbach, Calder: the big names are out in force at Connaught Brown this winter. This glorious little Mayfair gallery is set to brighten our darkening days with an exhibition of Twentieth Century abstract masterpieces.
We're looking forward to seeing Alexander Calder's exuberant untitled work of 1967. Painted in gouache, a kind of opaque watercolour, the composition is full of movement and rendered in primary colours, recalling his famous mobiles, which are currently dangling at the major Tate Modern retrospective.
Elsewhere, you'll find Picasso's 1921 cubist masterpiece Guitare sur une table, part of a series that marked a turning point in the artist's career, and launched the Spanish guitar as a major Cubist symbol.
With other works from Marc Chagall, Renoir, Henri Le Sidaner, Raoul Dufy, Leon Pourtau and Jean-Baptiste Armand Guillaumin, there's plenty here to delight.
