Environmental Photographer of the Year 2015, Royal Geographical Society
Soaring landscapes and bitter social realities: Environmental Photographer of the Year competition arrives at the Royal Geographical Society
Royal Geographical Society London exhibition
This summer, the Royal Geographical Society presents 111 outstanding photographs that have been shortlisted for the Atkins CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year competition. With over 10,000 submissions from budding filmmakers and photographers from sixty different countries, the quality of images on display is second to none.
Open to submissions from amateurs and professionals alike, the competition explores international, environmental and social issues. In particular, the Environmental Photographer of the Year awards open our eyes to the causes and consequences of world issues like climate change and social inequality.
Nominees
This year’s shortlist explores a massive range of themes, from fishing in Vietnam, to the domestic aftermath of the Fukashima disaster, and the wild sandstorms of Kuwait. We are particularly struck by the image of a Bangladeshi family waiting in their living room for the flood waters to recede outside.
Powerful, arresting and highly original, the winner of this year's fascinating competition will be announced on June 25th.
