Conrad Shawcross: Inverted Spires and Descending Folds, Victoria Miro Gallery

If you've been lucky enough to see the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition recently, you'll have been dazzled by Conrad Shawcross's monumental new installation. 2015 has been quite a year for Shawcross, one of Charles Saatchi's favourite artists, and now Victoria Miro celebrates the young British sculptor with a new solo show.

Shawcross has gained international fame for sculptures which explore the borders of geometry and philosophy, physics and metaphysics. His structural montages in cast iron and bronze have become increasingly large-scale in recent years.
In this exhibition, Shawcross offers a rare public glimpse of his works considered "maquettes" – some produced for commissions, and others propositions for hypothetical sculptures. This body of work focuses on two lines of enquiry: Shawcross's ongoing fascination with tessellating tetrahedrons in his ‘Paradigm’ series and the dynamic visual potential of harmonics in his ‘Manifold’ works. The two series will be installed as a singular sculptural field, leaving Shawcross's elegant new work open to different interpretations.
