Cornelia Parker RA: One More Time, Terrace Wires, St Pancras International station

From exploding sheds to St Pancras station's latest public installation: Cornelia Parker leads Royal Academy's new contemporary art project

Cornelia Parker, sculpture for St Pancras International Station London
Darling of the contemporary art world Cornelia Parker kicks off the Royal Academy's new St Pancras International station collaboration with a new public installation called One More Time. The enormous black and white clock, made of aluminium, steel and Jesmonite, is an exact replica of the famous DENT London clock that currently hangs in the station, the makers of Big Ben's famous timekeeper. The fun part is that the replica sits 16 metres in front of the original, masking the iconic clock at certain angles when visitors take a stroll around the busy station.
In the past St Pancras has brought us the vibrant Olympic rings and this project will see a host of Royal Academicians create new works for the busy station over the next four years. But for now, it's OBE Cornelia Parker that sets the bar high.
Who is Cornelia Parker | art & biography
The radical Royal Academician Cornelia Parker has earned her stripes in Britain this year as her solo exhibition re-opened the freshly renovated Whitworth Gallery in Manchester. But even before that she was making a stir with her Turner Prize nomination in 1997, blowing up sheds, wrapping Rodin's The Kiss sculpture in string and even an exhibition of found objects at the Serpentine Gallery organised with actress Tilda Swinton in 1995. Now Parker takes up the challenge in north London to fill St Pancras, a venue that has been the subject of several of her artworks such as Left Luggage (1989) and the temporary works in St Pancras Hotel for Northern Adventures (1992).
This is one of the best public art sculptures to be unveiled this year and is well worth a peak when you're speeding past to catch a train.
