Eileen Cooper: Hide and Seek, Royal Academy
Striking paintings and drawings of the expressive female body by Keeper of the RA, Eileen Cooper, spotlighted at Burlington House
Royal Academician Eileen Cooper brings her fearless perspective to a series of images of the female body at the RA this summer.
Eileen Cooper biography
Cooper is a leading British figurative artist who first gained notoriety in the 1980s, and now teaches print-making at her old school, The Royal College of Art. What is perhaps most fascinating about her is that in 2010, Eileen Cooper was made the first ever female Keeper of the Royal Academy of Arts.
RA exhibition 2015
Far from purely physical, Cooper is interested in the human spirit, sexuality and the womanly instincts of motherhood. This Royal Academy exhibition takes a look at Cooper's 40-year career and her 'magical realist' style in painting and printmaking. You'll discover ten previously unseen mixed-media drawings on display and a curious selection of dark and brooding images that unravel our basic human instincts.
Complex and expressive paintings evolve into charcoal, pencil, pastel and ink on paper, in Eileen Cooper's deeply personal oeuvre at the Royal Academy.
