Ryoji Ikeda: supersymmetry, The Vinyl Factory
Ryoji Ikeda, Japan's most famous electronic composer and visual artist, crafts a new installation at The Vinyl Factory
What is The Vinyl Factory?
You may not have heard of The Vinyl Factory before, but the record label, vinyl pressing plant, record shop, music magazine and visual arts programme have been making waves across London since 2001. Artists and musicians that have taken part in some of The Vinyl Factory's innovative collaborations include Christian Marclay (seen most recently working at White Cube Bermondsey), Florence + the Machine, Turner Prize winner Martin Creed, Dinos Chapman and even Duran Duran. It's a hub of activity over at the Brewer Street car park well worth a visit.
Ryoji Ikeda & The Vinyl Factory
If you were captivated by the beam of light that shone out across London in August 2014 as part of the centenary art commissions, you'll be thrilled to hear that the creator, softly spoken Japanese sound and light artist, Ryoji Ikeda, is back with a new show. Delving into the blurred line between music and visual art, Ikeda has produced an immersive installation of colliding text, sound and images. Science geeks will appreciate the mathematics behind it all as Ikeda explores the quantum mechanics he picked up during his residency at the Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN), where the theory 'supersymmetry' is currently being hashed out to explain why particles have mass.
Practical-minded art lovers will love the collaboration between science, music and art at Ryoji Ikeda's new show.
