The Kraszna-Krausz and First Book Awards, Science Museum
London's Science Museum spotlights the best in photography publishing at Kraszna-Krausz and First Book Awards 2015

The Science Museum Media Space kicks off its summer season with a display of photography and moving image books, shortlisted for the esteemed Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards and the big winner of the acclaimed First Book Award.
The Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards
Established in 1985, these prizes are awarded annually for publications that have made a real impact in their field. Two awards are up for grabs – the Best Photography Book Award, and the Best Moving Image Book, which encompasses film, television and new media publications.
This year it was Amore e piombo: The Photography of Extremes in 1970s Italy, edited by Federica Chiocchetti and Roger Hargreaves which snagged top prize for Best Photography Book, but don't miss the nominees which are equally worth pouring over: Koudelka: Nationality Doubtful, edited by Matthew S Witkovsky and The Open Road: Photography & the American Road Trip by David Campany.
Also look out for the Best Moving Image Book winner Michele Aaron’s Death and the Moving Image as well as nominees Amateur Cinema: The Rise of North American Moviemaking, 1923-1960 from Charles Tepperman and Be Sand, Not Oil: The Life and Work of Amos Vogel, edited by Paul Cronin.
The First Book Award 2015
Irish photographer Ciarán Óg Arnold (I went to the worst of bars, hoping to get killed but all I could do was get drunk again) has snagged top prize at the First Book Award for his work following the lives of figures living in his childhood home of Ballinasloe.
Awarded to an emerging photographer for his or her debut book publication, this prize has been presented annually since 2012. In addition to this year’s shortlisted publications, the Media Space are displaying photographic works by each of the past winners, so be sure to have a browse back in time. Don't miss the 2015 nominees, including Fine Bieler (Traumkaßte Bilder mit Anspruch auf Wahrheit); French visionary Marguerite Bornhauser (Plastic Colors); Prague local Ivars Gravlejs (Early Works); Tine Guns (The Diver); V&A collection regular Kevin Lear (A Glass Darkly); Vittorio Mortarotti (The First Day of Good Weather); South African Musa Nxumalo (I, II, III, IV, In search of …); photographer of the semi-conscious Charlotte Tanguy (In a Sense) and New York photographer Ofer Wolberger (billie).

British journalist and former editor of The Sunday Times, Sir Harold Evans is also being awarded the Kraszna-Krausz Outstanding Contribution to Publishing Award, while preeminent South African photographer David Goldblatt is being rewarded for his lifetime achievement with The Kraszna-Krausz Fellowship Award.
