Unity Spencer, Fine Art Society
The Fine Art Society keeps it in the family with a retrospective of work by Stanley Spencer's daughter, Unity Spencer
Unity Spencer is the daughter of the giant of British early 20th century painting, Stanley Spencer, who was best known for his haunting semi-religious works in the winding lanes of Cookham and brutal memories of the First World War. This Fine Art Society exhibition, of fifty oils and etchings, leaves us wondering whether talent ran in the family.
The show marks the publication of an autobiography by Unity Spencer, Lucky to be an Artist', which is sure to be filled with stories of her father and his eccentric life in rural southern England. The Fine Art Society, London also pays homage to the entire Spencer family with work on display by Sir Stanley Spencer as well as his wife Hilda Carline and brother Gilbert Spencer.
We'll just have to see if there is any family resemblance...
