Christian Rosa: Put your Eye in your Mouth, White Cube Mason's Yard

Brazilian artist Christian Rosa presents his first exhibition in the UK with a round of new abstract paintings inspired by the Surrealist technique of automatic writing.
Christian Rosa biography
Deconstructing the surface of the painting, Rosa is part of an adventurous generation of artists that are pushing abstraction to new levels. While reductive and abstract, his work often has anthropomorphic and recognisable elements which ground his paintings in reality. He has also been making a splash for some time on the contemporary art scene, and last year was featured at the New York Armory Show, Art Los Angeles Contemporary and Art Basel Hong Kong.
Christian Rosa exhibition 2015 White Cube
For those not familiar, automatic writing was developed by the Surrealist Movement in the 1920s as an unconscious, pure expression. Rosa uses the technique in this new contemporary art exhibition to layer his raw canvases with the building blocks of narrative and deconstructed elements that provoke an emotional response from the viewer. These complex paintings will leave you questioning whether the punctuations of colour and the symbolic marks are part of a wider conversation. But take a leap into the endless possibilities of meaning in these paintings at the White Cube, Mason's Yard.
