Kristin Oppenheim: White Rabbit, greengrassi
South London contemporary gallery greengrassi hosts new sound installations from artist Kristin Oppenheim
Kristin Oppenheim artist
Hawaiian-born Kristin Oppenheim is best known for her quirky sound works which feature covers of classic American songs or original pieces. As a student she was fascinated by the emotive power of her own voice, and began to give performances associated with sound objects. She recalls how, as a child, she would sing the same song over and over again until it was perfect.
Kristin Oppenheim biography
Oppenheim first appeared on our radar when she was featured in the Frieze London 2014 sculpture garden. The eight channel sound piece, Where Did You Sleep Last Night? was performed by the artist a capella before being remixed in the studio with a haunting folk song first recorded by Leadbelly and then Kurt Cobain, Nirvana. The Kristin Oppenheim Cry Me a River exhibition at Mamco, Geneva may have just closed, but this smaller show in London is a great time to catch her.

For her third solo show at greengrassi, Oppenheim presents two new works including, the theatrical light and sound installation White Rabbit and a series of sixteen three minute films entitled Pool of Tears. You'll also discover a new vinyl LP White Rabbit recorded earlier in the year at The Garden, Brooklyn, New York which was produced by The Garden and greengrassi gallery.
