Classicicity at BREESE LITTLE gallery is a new exhibition that presents ancient and contemporary art side by side. Greek and Roman antiques sit between inspiring works by internationally renowned contemporary artists including Sarah Lucas, Rachel Kneebone and Maggi Hambling. This unexpected juxtaposition is both fascinating and visually arresting, whether your artistic taste buds lean towards the modern or the classical.
BREESE LITTLE, London
Classicicity’s juxtaposition of the old and new establishes aesthetic, conceptual and narrative dialogues between the two genres. Antiques that we normally consider stuffy museum artefacts get a new lease of life, making us question whether there really is a set, traditional way that defines how we respond to classical art.
Look out rising star Mary Reid Kelley, whose most recent wry videos of the Greek myth of Pasiphae and the birth of the Minotaur got our attention last year.
Original and thought provoking, Classicicity has got us rethinking classical art in the contemporary world.
