Artist Thomas Zipp’s paintings are an investigation into the madness of civilisation. For his fourth solo show at Alison Jacques gallery, Zipp presents a new series of paintings, which attempt to bridge the gap between insanity and morality.

Zipp's practice includes sculpture, installation and music, centred on his fascination with scientific method and the invention of the human mind. Known for his texts painted directly onto canvas, Zipp explores the psychology behind dreams, fantasy, obsession and memory.

If you were lucky enough to see Zipp’s installation at the 2013 Venice Biennale, you might recognise some of the themes of the psyche in this contemporary art exhibition. Using the theories of Sigmund Freud’s pupil, Wilhelm Reich, and his Sex-Pol
text, Zipp explores the idea that sexual repression causes neurosis and stops revolutionary change. Look out for A.B.: Time Distortion, a new painting that examines the phenomenon of hypnosis. Also make sure you attend the private view when dancers and actors will move under the influence of remote controls and recite Reich’s text.
