Graffiti Sessions
Scribbles on a wall or a vibrant art form? Love it or hate it, have your say at this series of talks in London
From the cave paintings at Lascaux thousands of years ago to satirical Banksy artwork; graffiti and street art is an indelible part of our social fabric.
Now, you can take part in the debate at the Southbank London event - Graffiti Sessions: a three-day series of talks, workshops and panel debates which will consider the evolving role of graffiti and street art in the urban environment. With major contributors from both sides of the fence, Graffiti Sessions intends to establish a dialogue between the various stakeholders and assess the impact on urban communities.
Southbank Centre, London will kick off the first day with ‘Illegal Sessions.’ Contributors include some of the UK’s most prolific and sought after street artists such as Ben Eine, Noir, Inkie and Dotmaster; together with author and cultural criminologist Alison Young and Adam Cooper from the London Mayor’s office. We are particularly intrigued by discussions about the value of street art and whether cleaning it up can be more economically and socially sustainable. Expect some lively debate and intriguing ideas!
Starting with a full programme of talks at the Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall, 3rd December; head over to The Bartlett, UCL on 4th December and finally Central Saint Martins on the 5th December. Click here for the full programme.
