The Photographers 2014, Beetles + Huxley, Osborne Samuel

Leading galleries Beetles + Huxley and Osborne Samuel are hosting one of the best photography exhibitions in London this year, showcasing some of the most arresting images from the 19^th century to the present day. Displaying work by over 60 photographers, including industry masters like Edward Steichen and Henri Cartier-Bresson, The Photographers 2014 is an absolute must-see.
Exhibition highlights
We’re particularly excited to catch the exhibition’s collection of rare exploration photographs, including original NASA prints from major 20^th century space missions. Also on display is a set of spectacular images by Frank Hurley, taken during Sir Ernest Shackleton’s legendary 1914 Antarctic expedition, which document one of history’s greatest survival tales. Featured alongside are photographs from the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration at the end of the 19^th century by pioneering travel photographer, Herbert Ponting. Photographer and cinematographer on Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s fateful expedition of 1910, Ponting produced some of the world’s most iconic and enduring images of Antarctica.
The Photographers 2014 also highlights a unique and wonderful collection of previously unseen self-portraits by Vivian Maier, street photographer and professional nanny. Throughout her career, Maier captured over 150,000 photos of the people and architecture of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Other terrific highlights include significant works by influential mid-20^th century French masters like Willy Ronis and our favourite photographer of Paris, Brassai.
Osborne Samuel hosts the 19^th and 20^th century works, while Beetles + Huxley takes on the exhibition’s collection of contemporary photography. Don’t miss out on either!
