Head to Somerset House: Photo London fair, the biggest event in London's – and now Britain's – photography calendar, returns for a third year

There's almost too much to see at Photo London, the UK's largest photography event. It's the Frieze of the photography world: a festival signalling to the world that London is just as serious a photographic centre as LA, Paris and NYC. Major museums, industry heavyweights, tiny galleries, auction houses – London's photographic life has come out in full force. Bianca Jagger's a fan, as are Lily Allen, Daniel Craig, Nick Serota and Simon Schama.

Now in its third year, the fair takes over the whole of Somerset House for four days. There's an embarrassment of riches, and certainly no way to see everything. Patience is key. And perhaps a glass of wine halfway through.

From photojournalism and fine art to fashion and artists' talks, there are more than 85 galleries involved, from around the world.

London galleries to look out for include Autograph ABP, Flowers Gallery, James Hyman Gallery, Riflemaker and Tiwani Contemporary, Alison Jacques, Mack and Large Glass. Emerging artists and galleries can be found in its Discovery section.

Each year, a Master of Photography prize is awarded to a leading contemporary photographer – previous awards have gone to Don McCullin and Sebastião Salgado. This year, the recipient is NYC artist Taryn Simon – multidisciplinary artist, ultimate Cool Girl and the hottest property in photography right now.

The world's most prestigious international photographic co-operative Magnum Photos will present a special exhibition for Photo London. Curated by leading Magnum member Martin Parr, the exhibition will present a mix of contemporary works from the world's foremost photographers.

Aussie It-chef Skye Gyngell will be offering TABLE, a community eating house, in collaboration with Photo London. The temporary installation showcases the new ‘Scratch Menu’ – a three-course, £20 set menu designed to combat food waste, which is now being served at her restaurant Spring.

Even the camera-phobic will find something to love. Be sure to book.
