Mert & Marcus: Works 2001-2004, Phillips Mayfair ★★★★★
The world famous work of fashion photography duo, Mert and Marcus, will be on show for a limited time at the Phillips auction house
Mert & Marcus Philips auction house REVIEW Culture Whisper says: ★★★★★
Mert and Marcus are arguably the most successful photography duo in fashion history. Don't believe us, just look at their numerous covers for Vogue (US, Paris or British, take your pick). Oh, and W, Interview, LOVE, Vanity Fair...the list goes on.
Since their first cover for Dazed in 1997, the duo have been capturing some of the most innovative fashion photographs of the last two decades. This Autumn, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the pair's collaborative work, 18 of their photographs are on show as part of an auction at Mayfair's art-hub, Phillips.
These creative minds together have an astounding 24 Vogue Paris covers to their name. Celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, Madonna, Julia Roberts and Cara Delevigne have all sat infront of the camera for them and the duo have spearheaded campaigns with Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Givenchy (to name but a few).
Despite such a vast archive, only a few key prints have been selected to go on display. The entire exhibition will be made up of 9 black and white and 9 candy-coloured, pop colour prints, all taken between the years 2001 and 2004. Expect features from some of fashion's brightest stars, including Kate Moss tied up in unusual and overtly sexual positions. Tender images of Cara Delevingne hang side-by-side raunchy images of Lara Stone in nothing but heels and holding an taught stretch of fabric.
This exhibition will only be on for two weeks, so seize the chance to view these quirky, creative shots while you can, and before they are sent off to Paris to continue the auction.
