Giants: Body of Work, Lazinc Gallery

The giant pair of digitally printed legs embellishing erected scaffolding outside number 29 Sackville street is an unusual sight to behold in the heart of Mayfair. Drawing your attention immediately, the giant legs lure you in closer and closer to the imposing black door beneath the scaffolding. So close, in fact, that it becomes nigh on impossible to resist snooping around. Through the windows, a giant digitally printed head looms large.

Forming one work, the giant pair of legs and head, are part of a solo exhibition of work by globally renowned street artists JR.

Welcome to Lazinc, the swankiest new gallery in town co-founded by Steve Lazarides and Wissam Al Mana.

Throwing open its doors to the public this Friday, Lazinc launches its new 4,000 square foot Grade II* listed Mayfair gallery space with a multidisciplinary show exploring JR's phenomenally successful series, GIANTS.

During the 2016 Olympics, JR created a series of 3D giant outdoor sculptures across Rio de Janeiro depicting 'athletes whose identity was blurred behind the perfect motion of an instantly recognisible event such as swimming, diving, and high-jumping'.

With Lazinc's first show, comes the first essence of GIANTS to London.

Presenting a series of studies, preparatory notes, architectural drawings, and photography, which reveal the mechanics and technicalities behind JR's large-scale sculptures, GIANTS: Body of Work traces JR's creative process from start to finish. Offering an unparalleled insight into JR's technical prowess – this is the first time preparatory work has been displayed outside private studio visits – GIANTS highlights JR's commitment to large-scale community projects.

Known as the other Banksy, JR has created provocative and socially engaging installation pieces in streets across the world, from the slums of Paris to the favelas in Brazil. Committed to producing work accessible to all, his 'Pervasive Art' is thought-provoking and insightful, triggering discussions around global social issues including poverty, racial discrimination and womens' rights.

Celebrating a decade long relationship with contemporary art specialist and co-founder of Lazinc, Steve Lazarides, JR is set to enjoy a roller coaster year of success.
